A day with our language assistants

On Friday, November 17, the English language assistantsappointed in the Académie of Poitiers met up at the Lycée Venise Verte in Niort.
The day began with assistants introducing themselves one after the other. They told about their experiences in France so far. They shared issues they had encountered (housing, teaching strategies, managing workload, dealing with health insurance) and brainstormed the useful solutions that had emerged.
This sharing of knowledge was very informative and the students enjoyed getting an insight into the similarities and differences between their individual experiences. They then were introduced to the French education system. They also shared some lessons and activity resources.

After lunch, they broke off into two groups for the afternoon session. During this one, they played a few games exploring different ways of engaging students in language learning. Some examples included memory games like : « I went to the market and I bought… ».
The games were both a way to get to know their peers and discover different ways of presenting a new language in a captivating funny way which allows inter-cultural exchange.

Overall, it was a very interesting day with lots of opportunities to share unique experiences.
